Valentine’s Day is upon us, and that means a lot of thirsty skaters sending 3am “wyd?” texts. We asked everyone’s favorite recipient of those texts, @tinyhat_skatelife, for some tips on how skaters can behave better on the big day. Send them to your favorite woke bro!
Oh and, if you’re in New York City, the absolute best thing you can do for Valentine’s Day is go to the tinyhat x Quell Skate party tonight at Carmelo’s and buy your boo a limited edition hoodie. – TCB

There’s gonna be a lot of lonely skaters out there on V-Day. How long since your last text is it appropriate to shoot your Valentine’s shot?
Appropriate: 3 days max
What’s really gonna happen: A quick “hey wyd” after ghosting you for about 2.5 months. This is perfect timing because it’s that period where you’re almost over them but that one text gives you false hope to start all over again.
If ur skater boo has been texting back, but curves you on V-Day, are you ghosted?
Valentine’s Day brings soooo many unrealistic expectations. So, no, you are not necessarily getting ghosted.
So if you’ve been texting for like a month or less I wouldn’t have any huge expectations or even assume you would be hanging out on V Day. It would be nice if you found a hopelessly romantic skater, but let’s be logical about this, you probably haven’t.
After a few months of consistently hanging out and talking every day I would say, you may be getting ghosted. This is a holiday to “show your love” so it’s probably a sign they aren’t there yet and they are scared of their ~emotions~.
What are some V-Day dos and donts to keep in mind?
I’m biased because I think Valentine’s Day is corny and I’m in a relationship. So take these with a grain of salt.
DO:
Be cheesy, Valentine’s Day is a joke. Get chocolates, flowers (even better the fake single roses from the 99ct store), a dumb card.
Have fun…go drinking or go to dinner, whatever is in your budget/what you’re comfortable.
If you are feeling seriously alone…hang with your friends!!
DON’T:
Seriously – just don’t get drunk on v day and send them a bunch of sad texts about being alone. It’s embarrassing for both of you.
Don’t go to overboard on the gifts, really gauge how long you’ve been in a relationship.
Don’t make Valentine’s Day a big deal (come on, your birthday is more important and there’s nothing worse than getting ghosted on your birthday).
If you’re a skater and you’re “in lurv” with someone, what should you do to avoid blowing it on the big day? Do you need to skip skating? Or just stop by the florist after the sesh?
If you’re really ~in lurv~ then you know what’s best for your partner and doing something sweet for them doesn’t feel like a chore because you love seeing them happy (oh jeez so corny let me stop).
Are Juul pods an appropriate Valentine’s day gift? What flavor is the most romantic?
Duh. The variety pack. Such a sweet treat. They have so many choices it’s like an assortment of chocolates.

Why do you think skaters are do commitment phobic?
Being emotionally available is draining and takes work.
Skaters like to skate (woah) and that’s probably what they want to do before work, after work, and on the weekends. I mean at night of course they wanna get a beer because like come on they are TIRED. So at the end of the day it’s not personal.
What’s your ideal 3am text to get on Feb 15th?
Ugh, “happy valentine’s day” just so you know they were thinking of you this whole time they just needed to probably drink a little before they sent it.
Bonus Q: Would you date Mark Suciu if he read more women authors?
Nope, I already live with my skater boyfriend <3.
