Our friend Eloise Dörr is launching her 5th solo exhibition, “Blue and Other Colours“, this Saturday night at the London Stance store. The work is inspired by that somber, soulful moment that we’ve perhaps all had: skateboarding through the city at night alone, and it looks rad. Here’s the blurb:
“Blue and Other Colours” is Eloise Dörr’s 5th solo exhibition, showing her latest series of acrylic paintings on birch plywood. They depict images of the city streets at night, each with a different accent and source of light, also featuring Eloise’s signature silhouette skateboarding characters. These paintings are palette focussed, projecting the sombre feeling of the empty city at night by the use of muted blues which highlight the bright flashes of artificial light from the city’s street lamps, shop windows and cars. The distinctive loud rumble of pushing down the street during those quiet nights is accentuated by her colour choices, the subtle blues contrasted by a flash of light.
Skateboarding is a recurring theme in Eloise’s work and has been a consistent source of inspiration since she first picked up a skateboard 7 years ago. The similarities and comparability between art and skateboarding have aided Eloise in creating a colourful microcosm centred around these small blob like creatures, all based around the magic of curiosity!”
