Welcome to the third installment of Yin Yoga for Skateboarders, with Make Life Skate Life Programs Director Shane Carrick. In previous episodes, he’s shown techniques tailored for non-skate days. This one is for days you do skate, designed to help work out the kinks from a hard day on the shred sled. -SKATEISMShane’s Yin Yoga for Recovery This quick sequence is my go-to for recovering from a skate session or just recharging after a long day. When I don’t have time for a full yoga practice I throw on my headphones and do this. I’ve done it at skateparks, on airport floors and in hotels around the world. It’s quick, easy and super effective. Having our legs up on the wall allows our lower body to refresh. In Sanskrit this is called Viprita Karani which means “inverted” “In action” We can interpret that to mean that the pose inverts the typical actions that happen in our bodies when we sit and stand. It can also help trigger our parasympathetic nervous system so that we can relax, and rest. Go find a quiet place, some mellow music and give yourself 15 minutes of self-care. It will make a world of difference.
