‘All the small things’ is a blink-182 song that I really like. But it has also become a personal mantra for getting through the day in these weird times. I’m finally learning to appreciate simplicity and making the most of sketchy slappy curbs in empty parking lots.To be honest, I think it’s true that for a lot of marginalized folks, this virus has only revealed what many have known to be true all along; that the way the current capitalist system works doesn’t benefit around 90% of the world’s inhabitants. That we need a change and that change can be scary, but is sometimes necessary.
Enough talking about the revolution, let’s get back to all the small things. Even though there are no big events happening at the moment, there’s plenty of heartwarming skateboarding material on the world wide web to dive into. Here’s a pile of carefully selected clips that made me stoked this week.

Speaking of finding meaning and purpose you could read Kierkegaard or Nietzsche, but you could also just read this interview with Shani Bru. Is it ambitious or pointless to talk about the essence of skateboarding? Is essence even a thing? Read the thing and make up your own mind.
Another thing you’ve probably already noticed is happening, is the premiere of the new HBO series ‘Betty’ featuring some very familiar Skate Kitchen faces. I’m pretty excited. I’m always down for more representation of womxn skateboarders.

Even if it’s mainstream, it’s hopefully going to inspire lots of kids out there who don’t get to see cool womxn skateboarders irl. Do you have an HBO login? Maybe ask your parents? I’m watching, that’s for sure. Let’s get it!
If you’re feeling hungry for some euro steez, I personally really enjoyed the video ‘Horizons Bleus’ from Nike Sb and Free Skate Mag. The video is filmed by Augustin Giovannoni and edited by PJ Chapuis and features rides Alastair Pathé, Marca Barbier, PJ Chapuis, Hugo Corbin, Auguste Bouznade, Santiago Sasson, Oski, Mustapha Salem, Antoine Volle, Olli Lilja and Julian Kimura. Especially Kimura never fails to perform some exquisite moves.
While we’re talking steez, I strongly encourage you to go check the insta video ‘Bèatrice de 5 à 7’ a skateboarding film by Eric Duplessy that Beatrice Domond just posted. To me, Beatrice Domond always proves how creativity and originality can make the most basic spot look interesting. Top-quality skating and excellent parking lot skateboarding inspiration!
A couple of other cool things that you should check out while scrolling through Instagram is Hera, a new space in Berlin focused on Girl’s skate and art sessions and @girlsskateboard_iran, an account for and by Iranian girls who skate. They are both new on the gram so give them some love!
In other news, here’s a fun video of how Leticia Bufoni is handling quarantine. And it’s a pool party! To get back to our initial philosophical rant about essence, watching this video from my tiny apartment had me going deep into thoughts about the meaning of life.
