“The alphabet has 26 letters, and I figured 26 clips is about the length of a good video part. I wanted to build all the letters and skate them in a studio, but as soon as I started thinking about the letters, I started seeing them out in the wild.” Thus started a three year long spot hunt, Patrick Melcher pulling together the ABCs of skateboarding, with his unique creative edge always in tact. “Most people go into creating a video part with a checklist of tricks that they want to film, and they try and find spots that can accommodate those tricks. I had a checklist of letters…I had to switch up my visual platitude and look for letters and skate spots together, in a way, it was a re-training the unconscious mind to focus on a different set of skate standards.” We get it, take it away!
