Our team was invited to Barcelona to attend a Nike SB x Polaroid workshop curated by Dolores, a magazine supporting women and Non-Binary skaters. A day before it took place, we arrived at El Prat de Llobregat late at night. Early next day, we headed to the workshop where Sarah Meurle, her teammate Brian Anderson and Dolores hosted a four-hour workshop about skateboarding, creativity, and photography for ten participants. We were one of the first ones to get to the studio, and slowly we saw the room filling up with many amazing women and non-binary skaters. Even though we didn’t personally know every single one, we quickly became friends with all of them. After Sarah spoke to us about her passion, which is photography, and chatted with Brian about skateboarding’s close ties to creativity, the Polaroid team handed out cameras and films to all participants as we headed out to hit the streets, skating and taking photos. Our final stop was an amazing DIY skatepark where everyone had the chance to get creative on and off their board, by taking pictures or trying tricks. Afterwards, we got back to the workshop space with a huge paella waiting for us and all sat down in a circle to choose the photos we liked the most. It was incredible to see the Barcelona girls skate scene coming together and creating something beautiful along with other non-traditional skaters, and it was an experience we’ll never forget.
