Have you watched something that fully absorbed and intrigued you recently? Well, if you have mindlessly pressed that “Are You Still Watching” button, perhaps not. In that case, you’ll be happy to hear that we are back with a second lockdown screening! This time around, the feature is a beautiful short documentary focusing on queer skaters from California. Have you guessed it? Probably since you read the title. Let’s kick-off lockdown screening – Carving Space!
As we did for the previous screening, it will be through a single-use link available for Sunday April 10th only. To receive the link to the documentary, you must fill the form at the end of this article. If you signed up for the first lockdown screening, KAMALI, we will automatically send you the link. So without further ado, let us introduce you to Carving Space.
Directed by Annie Dean-Ganek, Carving Space presents in-depth interviews with Unity Skateboarding, Skate Like a Girl and Mixed-Rice Zines to name a few. Following the DIY projects from these queer trans skaters, it highlights the growth of the blossoming queer skateboarding community. Additionally, it shows how influential grassroots movements—whether it be zines, meet-ups or skate decks—can be. Through discussions of intersectionality and queerness, Carving Space brings a deeper perspective to a community lacking representation.
