Free Movement Skateboarding are fundraising £3,500, which will allow them to purchase a new Greek vehicle and continue their work in 2020. If you think about it, that’s really nothing. Please, give generously to this – one of the most important projects in skateboarding.
The Athens-based charity, who teach skateboarding workshops using a portable skatepark, have had to reduce their operation temporarily while they raise money for a new van. Having a mobile project is essential for them, it allows them to host public sessions in the city centre as well as inside refugee camps which suffer from a lack of services due to their location.
Up until this point, they have been operating using a van they drove here from England, which they use to teach nine skateboarding workshops in five different locations every week. They have sadly had to say goodbye to their previous van and are currently fundraising to purchase a Greek vehicle so that they can continue teaching skateboarding to over 150 young people every week in 2020.
“Engaging in meaningful physical activities, especially at a young age, is so important for personal development. After two years of teaching, we have seen our workshops significantly improve the health and wellbeing of the kids we teach; through learning an empowering skill, creating diverse friendships, releasing energy, practicing languages, building resilience, and feeling a sense of belonging within a supportive community.”
