This December, the biggest names in womxn’s skateboarding will descend upon Tokyo for a new event uniting skateboarding and culture.
The first international skateboarding event of its kind, the Skate Exchange is hosted by Women’s Skateboarding Alliance (WSA) and will bring together the world’s best female skateboarders for five days of skating, cultural exchange, friendship and fun in Tokyo.

Created by the biggest names behind womxn’s skateboarding, the Skate Exchange will unite skaters and participants to be part of a cultural exchange rather than a traditional competition. The world’s best skaters including Leo Baker, Leticia Bufoni, Alexis Sablone, Samarria Brevard, Jenn Soto, Nanaka Fujisawa, Mariah Duran, and others will be in attendance to participate and support the event. A live skateboarding jam open to the public will follow at Murasaki Skatepark on December 1st, including two learn-to-skate clinics specifically designed for local underserved teens and international school kids.
“As we move closer to Tokyo 2020, this event is our way of creating something that’s uniquely centred around community, travel, and the cultivation of friendships through skateboarding. We are honoured and excited to introduce the world’s top female skateboarders to Japan this December through this new global platform”. – Mimi Knoopw
With the inclusion of skateboarding in the Olympics, the competitive sector of skateboarding is rapidly expanding. This event aims to push forward the aspects of skate culture that are the foundation of why many started skateboarding. It will newly build a connection to the local and global communities while giving the world a rare and authentic peek into what it means to be a skateboarder. With a focus on camaraderie and fun, this pushes beyond just four wheels.
